Miriam’s story…

Miriam was a little girl growing up in an extremely poor family in Kampala. One day in 2011, when she returned home from school her parents were gone. After a few days her neighbors took her to the local police station. The police sent her around to different stations until she was sent to an institution for abandoned, troubled and criminal youth -- essentially a prison. The prison is dilapidated and full of violent young men and women.

Despite her desperate situation, Miriam excelled at the institution’s school and became well liked by the institutional staff. They have tried to help her find her family with no success. In 2014, one of the wardens was invited to referee a local soccer game where a young boy from America was present and announced that he would be back to do more in the community. The warden continued to follow the boy’s story and when he found out the boy was going to bring a girl from Mpigi to California he fought hard to get Miriam selected.  After being selected, the Wipfli family, through Ray United FC, paid for Miriam to receive a birth certificate, formal guardianship, a passport, her visa to the US, and her trip.

Miriam flourished in California and touched many people’s hearts. With promises of support, Miriam applied and was admitted to one of the top boarding schools in Uganda, Taibah International School (http://taibahinternationalschool.com). The Wipfli family paid her registration and material costs and Miriam will start on September 8.

Your opportunity…

We are asking for your support to sponsor Miriam’s tuition. It is $550 a term and there are 3 terms a year. The first installment has been paid but we still are collecting for the next two terms ($1,100).  Miriam will be fully aware of your support and promises to remain in constant contact with her sponsor. There is a computer lab at the school where she will have access to email and Facebook.

Please fulfill a pledge to be Miriam’s sponsor via Ray United FC by credit card by  January 1, 2016.
