Lira, Uganda (postponed, new date TBD)
RUFC’s 6th Annual Youth Soccer and Health Camp will be held in Lira District, Northern Uganda in partnership with Football for Good and Children’s Chance International.
Our 6th Soccer and Health camp promises to continue our tradition of excellence in providing education, fun and innovative public health and soccer training to youth. Children’s Chance International (CCI) will be taking over the role of community liaison, recruiting approximately 1,000 students, equal distribution of girls and boys aged 11-18, from schools within Lira District.
Our camp programing will be held at four different sites, selected by CCI, throughout the week ensuring that our services reach throughout the District. Local cooks, drivers, security personel, teachers, and students will be hired to serve the camp.
Football for Good will continue to provide the soccer training. Coaches will provide professional instruction while also scouting for promising talent to invite to try out for their Academy (for example, camper Daniel who was invited to try out in 2018).
Our public health curriculum focuses on sexual and reproductive health (based largely on the proven Grassroots Soccer curriculum), sanitation and menstrual health, risky behaviors (including tobacco use, alcohol abuse, and violence), and mental health. Our volunteers will be professionally trained in facilitation ensuring that they actively engage the youth throughout our program.
Campers participating in the program will receive a camp bag with a new t-shirt, a public heath workbook, and a pencil. All participants also receive nutritious meals and clean water throughout the program. Participating schools will receive curriculum guides, handless washing stations (tippy taps), and complete soccer team jersey sets thanks to Albion Soccer Club San Diego.
