Football and Health Camp
RUFC’s central activity is its annual week-long youth soccer and health camp in Uganda. In its first five years, RUFC camps reached over 5,000 kids in central and northern Uganda. Besides soccer training provided by professional coaches, the program offers public health, citizenship, and leadership education provided by health professional students from the US and Uganda. Camp participants each receive a camp bag with a new t-shirt, a public health workbook, and a pencil. All participants also receive nutritious meals and clean water. The camp culminates in a community-wide youth soccer tournament and medical outreach day. Our innovative public health programing is highly interactive and game-based. Our volunteers, many who have participated for multiple years, are well-trained in facilitation. Past evaluations have found extremely high satisfaction among youth participants and volunteers. In fact, every single volunteer in 2018 and 2019 said they would recommend the program to friends. Click here to explore our past Soccer and Health camps!
Splash Safe Camp
Starting in 2022, RUFC has expanded to host a second annual camp focused on drowning prevention. Drowning is a major public health challenge in Uganda with over 5,000 death occurring every year. Most of these deaths are preventable with proposer water safety education! Our first annual Splash Safe Camp will be held July 25-28, 2022 in Mukono, Uganda. The Splash Safe Camp will employ our same model, including professional Ugandan swim instructors and health and safety training provided by health professional students from the US and Uganda. Camp participants will each receive a camp bag with a new t-shirt, swimsuit, towel, flip-flops, workbook and pen. All participants will also receive nutritious meals and clean water. Camp participants who can pass a basic water safety exam at the end of camp will receive Splash Safe Ambassador certificates. Learn more about this critical new program!
