World Malaria Day Net-A-Thon 2021

In honor of World Malaria Day 2021, Ray United held its first annual Net-A-Thon. Over 9 hours on April 25, 2021, five teams distributed 3,000  malaria nets to over 500 households in the Lira District, Northern Uganda.

Each team was composed of Youth Public Health Ambassadors, as well as volunteers from Ray United and Children’s Chance International. Ray United volunteers were also members of each team to support and cheer for their teammates and help generate team sponsors.

Each team reached at least 100 households in their relevant parish (parishes include Otara, Bar Pii, Te-Adwong, and Acut-Kumu). The teams focused on reaching households vulnerable to malaria, including those with pregnant women and children under 5 years of age. For each household, the teams collected basic information about their access to, and use of, insecticide-treated malaria nets. They  also provided education and distributed flyers about how best to use and care for the nets.

All nets were donated by the Uganda brach of the US Peace Corps.

We raised over $8,000 through the event to support the mobilization and delivery of more malaria nets and educational resources throughout the year.

Meet the Teams!
